The James Memorial Library

The James Memorial Library, an operation of the James Foundation, is located in the St.. James Park at 300 W. Scioto St. Whether or not you wish to borrow a book, make time to step inside this graceful Georgian building. You will be pleasantly surprised. Here you will find a reading room with a fireplace, soft carpets, draperies, comfortable couches and easy chairs. This "living room for books" houses over 25,000 volumes, internet access and a microfilm reader, with back copies of the St. James newspaper and census reports. The Library receives current issues of over seventy magazines and three newspapers.

A special feature of the Library is the "Old Album", a picture history of the St. James Area.

The Library also houses an obituary index from 1896 (the first newspaper) through the present. These are death notices listed in the St. James Leader-Journal filed alphabetically and telling the date of the paper showing the obituary. The old newspapers are on microfilm for the public to use.

Lucy Wortham James' personal artifacts are also housed in the Library.
